Way to go, y'all!

The event was scheduled from 1-3pm SLT on Saturday, and of course money transactions went down, so it was extended for an hour. That, plus so many friends came by, including my good friend and fellow DJ Raven Skall and our good friend Estragon Quintus from Dublin, that I just kept on going with the songs and choooons until after 8pm -- over 7 hours of DJing, a new record for me!

In the unlikely event anyone wants to see the playlist from this event, here it is. (Probably no one will, but I'll post it anyway as I'm a compulsive listmaker and completist.)

"Lift the Ban!" Go maire sibh, Glen agus Mar!Er, "Congratulations, Glen and Mar!" that is!!

In case you were living under a rock last night (or just couldn't be bothered with an otherwise mostly boring-as-shite Oscar telecast), Irish musician Glen Hansard and his musical partner (and now girlfriend), Czech musician Markéta Irglová, won the Academy Award for Best Original Song for "Falling Slowly," from the film Once.

Here's the video of the performance of the song.

It was by far the sweetest and most satisfying moment of the show. Glen's speech was humble, and you could tell he was gobsmacked, completely overwhelmed. Then, in an initial outrage, the orchestra cut Mar off before she could speak! To his enormous credit, host Jon Stewart brought her back out after the ad break, saying "Enjoy your moment," and she gave a terrific speech. Watch:

Feckin' deadly!! Fair play to the both of yez. I would have rolled my eyes, said "Oh, for feck's sake," and ignored it, except that it came from Ryan (God'll get you for that, honey). Sigh.

Then the second punch came from Catero, and after procrastinating for a week I thought I'd get it over with.

Okay, here's the rules:

1. Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
2. People who are tagged need to write a post on their own blog (about their eight things) and post these rules.
3. At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.
4. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.

I'm going to break rule 3, because 1) half the people I'd tag have already been tagged by someone else, and B) I don't even know eight people in SL who have blogs. That's either sad (Seán has no friends, waaaah!) or encouraging (Seán's friends have better things to do than write blogs). But then again, of course, I'm blogging at the moment, so I think that says enough. Ahem.

Okay, here goes.

1. Given the opportunity I will eat an entire large bag of potato chips in one sitting. It's a sickness. (I'm partial to any flavor of Zapp's Potato Chips, especially the Crawtator, Honey Mustard and Creole Tomato and Tabasco flavors), Tim's Hawaiian Kettle Style Luau BBQ and just about any flavor of Walkers crisps (especially the mad Sensations line) from the UK and Ireland. Oh, and Smoky Bacon Taytos. Yay!

2. I'm a very good cook, at least in the home kitchen; in a professional restaurant kitchen I'd be in the weeds and bleeding inside of five minutes. My specialties are Italian, Mexican and Creole. And I talk about food incessantly, as those of you who know me have undoubtedly noticed.

3. Like Ryan, I'm a nonprofessional mixologist of mad skillz. I can fix you a drink that'll make you weep for joy, and forget you ever had anything of the ilk of a "Green Applepuckertini" (which is an abomination before God and man).

4. I've traveled to Ireland several times, and feel very much at home there. So much so, in fact, that I once got drunk with some locals in Donegal ("drunk" ... actually more like banjaxed, ossified, fluthered, in the horrors, langers, locked, paralytic, plastered, scuttered, stocious, twisted and sozzled after about 18 pints of Guinness), somehow managed to get back to my hotel in Derrybeg at 2am without getting nicked by the Gardaí (Irish police), then found the front door locked ... whereupon I sorta broke it down. The damage is still visible. Photographic evidence here, here and here, thanks to Angie Batz.

5. I once met Clint Eastwood. I was the go-to guy for tours of my department in college, and once upon a time he was checking us out for one of his kids. I got a whispery phone call from the department that I'd be doing my next tour for a "VIP." When I showed up to meet this VIP at the deparment office the following Saturday morning, his back was toward me. He turned slowly ... gave me the quintessential Dirty Harry narrow-eyed scowl, and then, in the quintessential Dirty Harry voice he said, "Are you ... Clancy?" My jaw dropped. I blanched, gulped and said, "Uhhhhhh ..." He then broke into a huge grin, laughed, stuck out his hand and said, "Hi, I'm Clint Eastwood, pleasure to meet ya." I then spent the next hour with him.

He is one of the coolest guys in the Universe.

I also waited in line at Pink's hot dog stand behind Mr. Chekov from "Star Trek" (a.k.a. Walter Koenig), and got to chat with him for a while, and not long after that sat right in front of Mr. Sulu (a.k.a. George Takei) in a movie theatre. Living in L.A. can be fun.

6. I'm a native of New Orleans, Louisiana. I love that city more than anywhere. It's a part of me. I identify more as New Orleanian than as American.

7. (Yes, and the blog he writes for and edits is part of the Second Style empire too ... it's all very incestuous, but in a good way.)

Listen to him talk about men's fashion in SL, and more importantly, listen to what a sexy voice he has. :-)Seán Pádraig Mac Fhlannchaidhhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14649831817550097353noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5300540235384805852.post-64200426525185908382007-10-17T17:20:00.000-07:002007-10-31T17:59:35.470-07:00The boy's on a roll!Film roll, that is. I've been going mad digging through 16 months' worth of SL photos on my hard drive and uploading them to my Flickr account. Unfortunately there are some good ones that have gone missing, but I've got enough left such that I'm left with a pretty good snapshot record of my Second Life so far.

Now, what I need to do is to start learning how to apply Photoshop techniques to SL photos as I do to RL ones, and get all awtsy-fawtsy. We'll see how that goes.

In the unlikely event you're following it, I'm uploading at a breakneck pace, so keep checking the Flickr page; there'll be tons of new stuff every day this week until I'm caught up, and then I'll make sure to keep adding photos regularly.

Thanks for looking! Or not, if you're not actually there! (I know that people are lining up around the block not to read this blog.)Seán Pádraig Mac Fhlannchaidhhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14649831817550097353noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5300540235384805852.post-84381217351269264192007-10-15T00:56:00.000-07:002007-10-15T01:09:56.034-07:00Seán the Fashion ModelI have now made my modeling debut, in Issue #11 of Second Style, the premier SL fashion magazine. Ryan's blog is part of the Second Style empire now, and he writes a monthly column in the magazine now called "Men's Corner." That issue's column featured summer wear, and here I am, resplendent in Blaze Columbia's blue seersucker suit.

The location is, naturally enough, Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop in The Big Easy sim, a respectable portrayal of New Orleans' Vieux Carré.

Modeling. Not only did I work on this blog that nobody reads, I also finally started uploading pages to the Flickr page that nobody looks at. (Well, that's not entirely true ... the whopping one photo of me on there up until now has had a whopping 210 views, for some reason.)

I've started near the beginning (excluding most shots of me from when my avatar was truly horrifying-looking, like an insane Howdy Doody with a pituitary problem), and will gradually upload things we've done and things we've seen and lots of disgustingly cute cuddly pictures of me and Ryan. That's my fabulous partner, and he's famous too -- he's the editor in chief of Men's Second Style, SL's premier men's fashion blog, and people recognize him when we're out together inworld. Hey, it's fun being his trophy boytoy. :-)Seán Pádraig Mac
